BODY & MIND Hands-on experience at chest summit Triptitribune Sunday, August 25, 2002, Chandigarh, India

The three-day chest summit beginning at Ashoka Hotel here on August 30 will enable pulmonogists gain hands-on experience at five workshops on mechanical ventilation, invasive homodynamic monitoring, blood gas, pulmonary/lung function test and resuscitation or ABCD technique (Airway, Breathing, Circulation and Drug technique) which are part of emergency management. The workshops are scheduled for the opening day.
While the first workshop will go on for six hours, the subsequent workshops are of three hours each. The workshops will be inaugurated by Dr T. P. Bose, Senior Consultant in Chest Medicine at Escorts Hospital, Faridabad, and Medical Superintendent (in charge of Chest Medicine) at Orthonova Hospital in South Delhi.
The conference is being organised by the Foundation for Chest Critical Care and Sleep (FCCS) with support from Glaxo Smithkline, CIPLA, Nicholas Piramal, Zydus Cadila, Pharmacia and Astra. Prominent among those attending the summit are Dr Marc Zelter, President European Respiratory Society, Dr David Shelledy, President, American Association of Respiratory Care, Dr Mark Eliot, senior faculty member at University of Leeds, UK and Dr Nicolino Amro Sino, Head of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine and Intensive Care, Scientific Institute of Gusasago, Italy. From the Indian side also, well known pulmonogists are attending the conference. These include Dr S.K. Jindal from PGI, Chandigarh, Dr J.S. Suri from Safdarjung Hospital, Dr J.N. Pandey from AIIMS, Delhi, Dr V.K Vijayan and Dr S.N. Gaur from Patel Chest Institute, Dr D.S. Kulpati from Ganga Ram Hospital, Dr Ajit Vigy from Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad, Dr Virender Singh from SMS Hospital, Jaipur, Dr P. Bhattacharya and Dr Ranjan Das from Kolkata, Dr Farooq Udwadia from Breach Candy, Mumbai and Dr Chugle from Bombay Hospital.
According to the FCCS President, Dr Bose, the conference will address current global challenges in respiratory diseases, tuberculosis and interstitial lung disease. Dr Bose says that the respiratory diseases are on the rise all over the world.
A book ‘Pulmonogy Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’ authored by the organising secretaries of the conference, Dr Bose and Dr Vikram Sarbhai, will also be released at the conference. Dr Sarbhai is a chest physician at Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre.
